Our history

 

Handicare Group has its roots in ‘Rullestolekspertenen’ (Wheelchair Experts), which was founded in Norway in 1986 by three wheelchair users and specialized in custom wheelchairs for disabled people. Over the years Handicare has acquired and merged with various long established companies in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, United Kingdom, France and Canada, and the product range has expanded considerably. Today, Handicare Group has established itself as one of the leading health companies in Europe.

Milestones

1993 Acquisition of Unik Industri AS, Lillehammer, Norway.
1995 The company name is changed to Handicare.
1997-2000  Handicare establishes a complete wheelchair product line.
1998 Merger between Handicare and Ergotek.
1999 Acquisition of Huber und Waldner, establishing a sales organisation in Germany, and Sebo.
2000-2001  Acquisition of Ergomekanikk and NycoPartner. NycoPartner, Sebo and Handicare’s Medical division form a new company: Puls, providing medical consumables and technical equipment to the Norwegian healthcare industry.
2001-2004  Launch of new product lines designed for higher volumes and cost-effective manufacturing. Acquisition of Medisinsk Utstyr, which is incorporated in the Puls organization.
2005 Handicare acquires Kjaerulff, Denmark, specialized in bathroom safety, strengthening its position in the Scandinavian marketplace. Acquisition of movingpeople.net, with operations in the Netherlands, Canada, the United Kingdom and Belgium, strengthening Handicare’s mobility portfolio as well as the company’s position in various geographical markets.
2006 Acquisition of the Danish companies Kebocare, Handi Mobil and Multitek in Norway.
2007 Handicare acquires Freelift, operating in the Netherlands, United Kingdom, Germany and France, adding stair lifts to its product portfolio.
2008 Handicare acquires RoMedic in Sweden and strengthens its position internationally within lifting, transfer and positioning products.
Handicare acquires Linido, based in The Netherlands. Linido is a manufacturer of safety products for use in bath, shower and toilet areas. With 70 years of experience, Linido is a well-known specialist in this field, throughout the world.
2009 Acquisition of Ligtvoet Products, a Dutch company specialized in developing and manufacturing mobility products since 1965.
2010 Handicare acquires UK stairlift manufacturer Minivator, strengthening its position in the UK, broadening its product offering and improving sourcing capacity too.
Handicare acquires KWS Rehab AS in Norway and strengthens thereby its position within the accessibility market.
